Latest wedding

Three tiered wedding cake--all spice cake with buttercream icing. The tiers were 6", 9", and 12". I'm a BIG fan of the 3" diameter increments.

Poker anyone?

I apologize for the quality of these images, but I just had to post this cake. I had so much fun making every aspect of it! The cake is iced in buttercream icing and the green diamond, cards, and poker chips are made of fondant.

Wedding favorites

Below are pictures of some of my favorite wedding cakes. All of the cakes in the pictures have buttercream icing. Many brides like fondant because it gives a smooth appearance, but I've found buttercream can be worked with to create a mostly smooth finish also.

The wedding cake that started it all. Green ribbon around the base of each layer and real white and yellow roses between each layer.

This was quite possibly the most delicious wedding cake I have ever made. It was chocolate cake with fluffy peanut butter filling and chocolate buttercream icing. SOOOOO good! I highly recommend this combination!

I loved the combination of elegance and playfulness in this cake. The icing was very elegant and graceful at first glance...and yet it was funfetti cake underneath!

It's hard to tell in this picture, but each tier had a scattering of small tri-dots on the sides. The flowers were real orchids.

A gorgeous five tiered creation. I love how the detailing stands out against the white.

Welcome!

I decided to start a blog to let my customers know more about who I am, how I got started, and to show photos of some of the cakes I've done. I have a website in the works, but it's not up and running yet. I've had many many calls asking for more information...and I figured this is the best I can offer until the website is ready to go!

I have ALWAYS loved to bake. I grew up helping my mom in the kitchen. During college I provided my friends with an endless supply of chocolate chip cookies. In fact, my husband claims this is how I won him over!

Despite my love for baking, I had never had much experience with baking cakes until the fall of 2006. My best friend was getting married the following summer and I volunteered to make her wedding cake. Almost as soon as she accepted my offer I realized I knew NOTHING about making a homemade cake, much less a wedding cake! Thankfully I had months to learn. We ate our fair share of cake in the months leading up to her wedding as I "perfected" my recipe. When July rolled around, I knew the cake would taste good, but I still wasn't so sure about how it would look...or if it would stand up for the whole reception. Thankfully everything turned out great and I think I hid my inexperience quite well! From that day on I've been hooked on baking and decorating cakes--especially wedding cakes.

Since then I have done all I can to learn more about cake baking and decorating. I have taken several Wilton cake decoration courses, read numerous books, spent hours researching online, and most importantly I've gained experience. When it comes to baking, there is no replacement for getting in the kitchen and making cake after cake!

Until last spring baking was my passion, but it was just something I did on the side for friends and co-workers. I didn't do much to pursue baking as my career. However, when my husband and I found out that we were going to be parents in August, we decided that this would be the perfect way to bring in a little extra money while being a stay at home mom! Which is what brings us to where we are today. I am a stay-at-home mom of the most adorable baby boy in the world and I make custom cakes out of our home!
