Time flies!

Wow!  It's been a LONG time since I've made a post!  My apologies to everyone looking for new pictures!

Life and business have been very busy!  My sweet baby boy is now 6 months old!  I still can't figure out how half a year has already gone by since he was born.  I have made several spectacular cakes in the past weeks (several posted below).  My website has been expanded to include images of the cakes and additional information!

Quite possibly the most exciting thing to happen for The Sweetest Course happened yesterday.  I recieved a call around 1:30pm for a large cake (12" round four layers with whipped frosting and fresh berries between the layers and on top!)...and it was needed by the evening.  The call was from the Hampton Coliseum and the cake was requested by the band in concert that night.  I quickly realized this was the Black Eyed Peas!  Thankfully, my son now takes two long naps (most days...sometimes).  We raced to the store to buy all the ingredients and while he napped, I baked!  Also, thankfully my wonderful husband was able to get home early from work to watch the little man!  Working at record speed, I was able to finish the cake by 8:00 -- just in time!  I found out this morning the cake MADE IT ON STAGE!!!!  I wish I hadn't been so rushed, because it wasn't the best decorating I've done, but the whole thing is exciting none-the-less!  I've never listened to the Black Eyed Peas before, but I think I might just have to become their newest fan!  As soon as I can get a picture or video of the cake on stage I will post it!  Here is a picture of it before it left my house!
While I raced and stressed to get this cake done in record time, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't the idea that I can do this often!  I was very lucky to have the time to do it yesterday, but not everyday is this calm in our house!  I will continue to request at least one week's notice or orders are subject to rush fees.

Coming soon for brides!

I am about to purchase a 16" round and a 16" square cake stands that will be available for a small rental fee and refundable deposit for weddings. I love the way these stands accent the cake and really give it a presence.  The stand is tall enough to give the cake the apperance of being an additional tier taller.  I highly recommend this for any bride that would like her cake to be a centerpiece of the reception.

I have not decided on this exact stand, but whichever one I do purchase will be very similar in style.

Last of 2009

This was the first four tier wedding cake I've done with 3" increments between the tiers--6", 9", 12", and 15".  I absolutely loved how it turned out!  The bride created her own custom ribbon by sewing a thin ribbon on the thicker one as an accent.  It tied together the colors of the fabric on the cake table with the flowers and bridesmaids dresses.  Very well planned!

This cake was a recreation of a couple's wedding cake for their 40th anniversary.  The original wedding cake was much larger, but we pulled together as many details as we could for a cake this size (6", 8", and 10").  I wish I had taken closer views of each tier to show all the detail.  There were lots of buttercream roses and garland/swags!

The cake table for a baby shower.  The main cake was vanilla and the three mini-cakes were chocolate.

The icing was all fondant.

A boombox cake for a 16th birthday party.  Lots of bright colors--SO fun!

Polka dots are very popular lately.  Again, the foil in the bow is only there to help hold the shape until the party.

A sculpted football helmet cake for a boy's 16th birthday.  The helmet was covered with fondant to give a smooth appearance, but the cake was buttercream icing.

This adorable cake was for a little girl's first birthday.  All the decorating was done with fondant.  Fondant will dry out and hold it's shape after a few hours.  The foil you see helps give the bow some support while it dries and will be removed before the party.

Great shower/birthday cakes!

This adorable cake was for a baby shower. It was my first time making a "bump" cake--and I think it turned out to be one of my all time favorites! The decorating was all done with fondant.
